NAAC A Grade

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)

Establish System Above Individuals

NAAC is an autonomous regulatory body founded in 1994 by the UGC to assess and accredit all the Institutions of Higher Education in the country, both universities and colleges. The prime function of NAAC is to “evaluate the institutions for its conformance to the standards of quality in terms of its performance related to the educational processes and outcomes--” This assessment takes place on a seven scale criteria such as 1) Curricular Aspects 2) Teaching ,Learning and Evaluation 3) Research, Innovation and Extension 4) Infrastructure and Learning Resources 5) Student Support and Progression 6) Governance Leadership Management, and 7) Institutional Value and Best Practices. Initially an institution which wants it to be assessed by NAAC and accredited, has to register online on NAAC website, then apply for Institutional Information for Quality Assessment (IIQA). On the approval of IIQA by NAAC, a Self-Study Report (SSR) needs to be submitted online on the basis of the seven criteria mentioned above. The assessment has three stages viz., Quantitative Metrics (Validated through software by a third party), Student Satisfaction Survey (SSS) conducted online by NAAC, and verification of the Qualitative Metrics by NAAC Peer Team by site visiting. Thus, the entire process is highly reliable, objective, and fully transparent. An institution is then allotted grade on a seven-point scale based on CGPA calculated on the basis of total marks allotted to the institution. J. N. S. Govt. PG College, Shujalpur was assessed in December, 2015 and was accredited grade ‘’ B’’. The assessment has to be done every 5 years. NAAC has mandated functioning of an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in the institution once the 1st cycle of accreditation is done. “IQAC is conceived as a mechanism to build and ensure a quality culture at the institutional level. ------It should become a driving force for ushering in quality by working out intervention strategies to remove deficiencies and enhance quality. In fact, from the 2nd cycle of assessment of an institution, what is assessed by NAAC about its performance in the previous five years are the quality-improvement measures initiated by its IQAC, and their outcomes.

IQAC of the college makes strategies and takes initiatives for setting up of quality parameters in the academic, research and administrative activities of the college. Jawaharlal Nehru Smriti (JNS) Govt Post- Graduate college set up its IQAC cell in the year 2014-15 and has been effectively conducting its duties for overall quality improvement. The major quality improvement initiatives taken by IQAC includes Organizing interdisciplinary lectures to acquaint both the faculty and students with current development, opening of new job-oriented self-finance courses, Establishment of English language lab to improve communication skills of students and staff as suggested by NAAC peer team during the first cycle of accreditation, collection of feedback from all the stakeholders regarding academic performance of the faculties manually and updating the collection process through google forms from time to time, which facilitates Maintenance of alumni records and registration of alumni association in the college. The IQAC has also initiated the process of college website development and establishment of Management Information System (MIS). In addition to internal quality measures related to academic and administrative areas, the IQAC also inspires various social services initiatives such as establishment of Health centre in college premises under the Red Cross scheme. It also promotes field visits/ study tours for final year students. It has also facilitated setting up of a language laboratory. A personal and academic counselling cell has been constituted jointly by MSW and Law departments. The process of registration of the Alumni association was initiated and the same completed in the year 2020. An active placement cell has been functioning under the career guidance cell, which was also an initiative of IQAC. It was also instrumental in setting up Departmental Libraries for all the PG programmes run by the college. The IQAC also appreciates the initiatives of various departments for establishing a Botanical Garden and a Nakshtra Vatika in the college premises in the year 2021.

Seeing the continuous changes and demands of the present job- market and considering the pivotal role of educational institutions in moulding students to cope with the same, IQAC is continuously striving towards modernizing the pedagogy by encouraging and motivating the faculties to switch over to ICT enabled classroom teaching via PowerPoint presentations and other audio-visual aids. It also tries to inculcate research attitude among students and creating an environment for cultivating scientific temperament among faculty members and students. IQAC vision statement is to “Establish system above Individual”.

During COVID-19 lockdown period, under the aegis of IQAC the college has organised number of national and international webinars and have also conducted regular online extension lectures on various relevant topics.
